Visual Artist – Painter

With a view to content I look into the complexity of what is. Skills and techniques are used for supporting the inherent statement. Aesthetically beauty is allowed without being superficial.

My way of working

The colours for my work I produce myself using high quality pigments and mediums. The colours themselves are applied with a brush in very thin and more than hundred layers upon the respective image carrier (paper, canvas, wood, aluminium). That way I have adopted the classical layered painting technique of the old masters.

I use only the primary colours red, yellow and blue; only in individual cases and for interlayers I add white. That way colour spaces are created that are of great intensity and luminosity, similar to multiple exposure. Hence, these colour spaces remain, despite their intensity, transparent.

Next to my focus my oeuvre is completed through the use of also other techniques such as filigree drawings with ink and graphite ink, printmaking with woodcut, monotypes and the combination of different techniques.

ARTWORKS THE SMALL FORMAT

These paintings do not have an overarching theme but rally different subjects and techniques. What they have in common is, that all are made in acrylic layering, paper on wood and in the size 20 x 20 cm.

ARTWORKS QUINCE - ROSE FAMILY

In the series Quince – Rose Family I return again to the contemplation of nature. However, also here I do not want to simply reproduce an object but to give expression to it’s process of blooming, ripening and wearing off.

ARTWORKS NETWORKING

These paintings reflect the duality that is characteristic of networks, be it a spider’s web or a human virtual community. Powerful colours and density on the one, fragility and transparency on the other side.

ARTWORKS GET WARS NO PEACE

The symbol that is iconic for war is the MP.

To highlight and illustrate the misery of war, of the forced displacement and refuge I have chosen an ambi- and polyvalent depiction, in which the human, the prosthetic and the form of the gun are merging.

ARTWORKS ON THE WAY

In the series “on the way” I have returned to the topics of refuge, forced displacement and rootlessness. The central means of expression is a woodcut made after a photography of my parents’ house which I turned upside down for printing. The gable end of a sheltering roof so became a ship’s hull. The figurative portrayals remain deliberately blurred, because the perception of fleeing human beings isn’t one that focuses on the individual.

ARTWORKS SHADOWS

Inspired by nature those works have the fleeting moments of light and shadows as their topic. In these paintings is captured a motion, which in contrast to the static character or the image itself has not come to a halt.

ARTWORKS SWEET ART

The series Sweet Art is at first a homage to Pop Art. But primarily I use the putting in order of fruit gums and candies to create a first glance impression of uniformity and stiff order, while a closer look will reveal that each object in the line has its specific individual expression.

ARTWORKS FLOWERS

With these works I continue with observing nature. Again, not the exact depiction is my interest, but – through using the technique of blind drawing – the reproduction of my own inner vision.
